National Innovation Indicators

Entrepreneurship is an essential driver of societal health and wealth. It is also an  engine of economic growth. During its 22 years of existence, Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) has repeatedly contributed hard, robust and credible data to help Governments make key decisions that stimulate sustainable forms of entrepreneurship and promote healthy entrepreneurial ecosystems worldwide. The World Intellectual Property Organisation has a partnership with GEM to benchmark country’s performance in entrepreneurship. Since 2022, two new indicators (the 1.3.2 Entrepreneurship Policies & Culture and 4.1.1 Finance for Start Ups & Scale Ups indicators of the GII) now feature on the country profiles of the Global Innovation Index reports issued by WIPO. Countries are hence encouraged to form partnerships with GEM to get reliable data on their entrepreneurship ecosystems.

The MRIC has set up a GEM National Team and applied to GEM to join its consortium and conduct the National Expert Survey. The GEM board approved the Team and proposition in October 2023 and since then both National Team and GEM experts have worked jointly to conduct the NES in Mauritius, same has been completed in  December 2023. The GEM experts are now working on the country analysis, and it is anticipated that Mauritius will feature on the new entrepreneurship indicators of the Global Innovation Index reports as from year 2024.
