NEREUS Project - Training on Automatic Identification System

The NEREUS project, led by the Surrey Space Centre (SSC) in collaboration with the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), is developing a tool for the detection of anomalies in satellite data that could be related directly to Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. Detection is performed by a Machine Learning engine using maritime satellite data mainly from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and self-reporting data like the Automatic Identification System (AIS) data.

On the 18th January 2024, the Surrey Space Centre in collaboration with the MRIC organised the 2nd training which was on Automatic Identification System (AIS). 35 participants from Mauritius and worldwide attended the training course. To view the AIS training and for more information, please visit spacemauritius.com, NEREUS section.

The NEREUS project is expected to be completed in May 2024. A final dissemination will be organised in April 2024. The exact date will be communicated in due course.
